On Wednesday 17 July, Moorview Care team member Sam completed her final swim in the Macmillan Swim It challenge — with a 400m splash in the North Sea to bring her total distance to just over 21.9 miles!
What started as a personal goal to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support became a two-month test of dedication, courage, and cold water endurance. With a fundraising target of £250, Sam has now raised over £500, with donations still coming in.
"We thought we’d do something special to finish the challenge, so we ended in the actual sea — like anyone would if they were crossing the Channel!"
Joined by colleague Jennie for the final stretch, Sam powered through waves and chilly temperatures to complete her mission with determination (and a lot of cheering from the beach).
"It was VERY cold, but I’m so pleased we’ve done it. Thank you everyone for your support!"
This challenge wasn’t just about swimming — it was about giving back. Sam chose to support Macmillan because of the care and support they’ve provided to people close to her, both past and present.
We couldn’t be prouder of what Sam has achieved, and we’re grateful to everyone who donated, shared her page, or came down to the beach to cheer her over the finish line.

Congratulations Sam — you’ve done us (and Macmillan) proud. 🏁💚
