John's Adventure into The Deep

A Day at The Deep: John’s Adventure Beneath the Waves

We’re passionate about creating opportunities for the people we support to enjoy new experiences, build friendships, and grow in confidence. Recently, John and his friend Beth, who is also supported by Moorview Care, enjoyed a spontaneous and memorable day out; an adventure that reminded everyone just how much can happen when we say yes to new opportunities.

It all began one morning as John sat in the garden with Beth and her support team. The group were chatting about plans for the day when Beth mentioned that she’d love to visit The Deep. Without missing a beat, John asked, “Can we go?” and when told there was no reason why not, his face lit up. A plan was quickly made: they’d head back to the apartments for lunch and then set off for their day out.

After lunch, everyone caught the bus into town. When they arrived, they realised they’d just missed the next bus to The Deep — but that didn’t stop them. The group decided to walk instead. Although John was a little hesitant at first, he soon found his confidence and joined in with enthusiasm. Over the next hour, the group made their way through the city, with John keeping up, chatting, and enjoying the journey.

When they finally arrived, John’s excitement was clear to everyone. He was fascinated by the sea life — the sharks, penguins, and especially the swordfish, which he talked about several times.

“I like the swordfish,”  he said with a big smile, stopping at each exhibit to take it all in.

At one point, John faced a moment of uncertainty at a set of stairs, saying he wasn’t sure he could manage them. With reassurance that he could take his time, he gave it a try and made it down successfully. It was a proud moment for everyone there.

Throughout the visit, John engaged warmly with Beth, the team, and other visitors, sharing in the joy of discovery. As they left, he said,

“I’ve enjoyed it - can we come again?”

The day was more than just a trip, it was a celebration of independence, friendship, and perseverance. John walked further than he believed he could, showed growing independence by choosing not to use his walker, and embraced every new experience with a smile.

Everyone who supported John that day couldn’t have been prouder. His enthusiasm and determination reminded us all why these shared experiences are so important; they help the people we support to grow, connect, and discover what they’re truly capable of!
