At Moorview Care, we love celebrating the unique passions of the people we support. Caitlin’s green-fingered project has been a journey of learning, creativity and pride and it’s still growing strong.
Planting the Idea
“I wanted to achieve planting and growing my own vegetables, which would help me budget and save money whilst growing the vegetables.”
Caitlin carefully chose her favourite vegetables: Peapods, Tomatoes, Onions, Leeks and Mint for her new potatoes.
And she’s not stopping there: “I’m hoping to plant some courgettes soon,” she shared.
Support Along the Way
Caitlin worked closely with her Senior Support Worker, Julie, who showed her how to plan her vegetable patch and care for her plants. Together, they nurtured seedlings in a greenhouse before planting them outside.
“Julie supported me in planning and taught me how to look after the plants when planted.”
Caitlin prepared the soil, weeded the garden, and set up netting for the peapods. With Julie’s help, she also collected hazel wood from the nearby woods to build natural climbing structures.
Other team members supported too. Lauren joined Caitlin to choose gardening tools and a watering can, ensuring she had everything she needed.
Overcoming Challenges
Like many gardeners, Caitlin faced some hurdles. The weeds were persistent and the soil was hard to break up. But with patience, teamwork and even a little help from the rain, Caitlin kept going and made progress. For her 21st birthday, she received a beautiful metal watering can and Laura Ashley gardening gloves. She’s since added solar lights to brighten her patch.
Growing Confidence
“It made me feel very happy that I have accomplished this and happy to continue with my project.”
Caitlin is determined to keep expanding her garden, describing it as “a work in progress for the year.” Her commitment shows that gardening is not just about plants, but about growth, confidence and joy.
Why It Matters
Caitlin’s story is about more than vegetables. It’s about setting goals, learning new skills, and celebrating success with the support of her team.
Her gardening journey is proof that, with encouragement and determination, the smallest seed of an idea can grow into something glorious.
