Oluwasegun Olukotun (Shegs) Represents Moorview Care as Judge at the Great British Care Awards 2025
Moorview Care was proud to see Oluwasegun Olukotun (Shegs) represent the organisation as a judge for the Home Care Team category at this year’s Great British Care Awards 2025.
Shegs is a Support Worker in Moorview Care's Whitby Team, and the winner of this year's Support Worker of the Year Award at the National Learning Disability and Autism Awards.
What Shegs enjoyed most
For Shegs, the highlight of the judging experience was the privilege of meeting dedicated individuals from across the care sector and hearing their unique and often deeply moving stories first-hand.
A valuable learning experience
This was a completely new opportunity for Shegs, and one that quickly became a journey of self-discovery. Judging the Home Care Team category meant speaking with almost 14 different teams, sometimes interviewing five or six members at once. This experience significantly boosted Shegs’ confidence, particularly in conducting virtual interviews, and helped develop a much greater sense of ease in leading online conversations.
A deeper appreciation of the sector
Listening to so many personal accounts reinforced for Shegs that the care sector is blessed with compassionate and resilient people who routinely go far beyond their duties to improve the lives of those they support.
“Time and time again, teams spoke about going above and beyond, often at personal cost and despite feeling undervalued. It was inspiring, humbling, and at times deeply emotional.”
A story that truly inspired
One team shared how they supported an end-of-life person who had become withdrawn and was barely taking her medication. Through extraordinary patience, dedication and nurturing support, they helped her slowly regain her independence until she was able to lead a full and active life once again.
“Her transformation was incredibly powerful and deeply moving. It’s a story that will stay with me for a long time.”.
Bringing the experience back to Moorview Care
The experience reaffirmed for Shegs that Moorview Care is already delivering exceptional, person-centred support, the same “above and beyond” ethos being celebrated at a national level.
“Hearing these stories has motivated and challenged me to keep raising the bar, ensuring the people we support continue to experience passion, creativity and genuine care in everything we do.”
Moorview Care is delighted to celebrate Shegs’ contribution to this year’s awards and the inspiration he brings back to our team. Follow The Great British Care Awards online, and keep an eye on the hashtag #gbcareawards for more stories from this year’s event.
