Moorview Care was incredibly proud to attend the National Learning Disability & Autism Awards in Birmingham, where Moorview Matters was shortlisted as a finalist for the prestigious People's Award.
The People's Award celebrates individuals or teams of people with a learning disability or autistic people who are making an exceptional contribution to support services, personal development and inclusion. To be recognised amongst organisations from across the UK was an incredible achievement in itself, and one that reflects the determination of everyone involved in Moorview Matters.
Representing Moorview Matters were Caitlin and Zoe, accompanied by Moorview Care Team Shelley Thorpe, Cluster Manager in Scarborough, Lucy Hall, Support Worker in Whitby and newly crowned Moorview Musketeer at our local awards, and Cheryl Ella, Learning and Development Officer.
The excitement began long before the awards ceremony itself. After travelling down to Birmingham together, the ladies enjoyed having their hair and make-up professionally done before getting ready for the evening ahead. Dressed for the occasion and full of anticipation, they arrived at the stunning venue to find almost 100 beautifully dressed tables, sparkling place settings, and hundreds of people from across the learning disability and autism sector gathered to celebrate excellence.
Seeing Moorview Matters displayed alongside so many respected organisations and professionals from across the country was a proud moment for everyone.
The evening was filled with laughter from the very beginning. Caitlin was first into the spotlight after winning a bottle of wine during the Heads and Tails game, confidently making her way onto the stage to collect her prize, meet the host and pose for the cameras. Those who know Caitlin won't be surprised - she has never been one to shy away from the spotlight! Recently elected as Chair of Moorview Matters, she's embraced her new role with enthusiasm and confidence.
Zoe soon had her own starring moment. As the evening's entertainment got everyone involved, a Tina Turner tribute performer invited Zoe to the microphone, where she sang along to the delight of the audience, bringing plenty of smiles and applause from the room.
Following a delicious four-course meal, anticipation grew as the awards presentations began. When the People's Award category arrived, Caitlin, Zoe and the team watched proudly as Moorview Matters appeared on the big screen as finalists. Cheers erupted around the room.
The judges announced that the finalists had been "neck and neck, making it very difficult to decide on a winner."
Moorview Matters was awarded Highly Commended!
Caitlin was straight on her feet, making her way to the stage, cheering with joy at the recognition our inclusion group had received. She even managed to grab a memorable photograph with Peter Andre, who was presenting at the ceremony.
It was a moment of recognition for everything the group stands for: ensuring the voices of the people we support are heard, valued and at the heart of everything we do.
The celebrations continued long into the evening before the group made the journey home by train to Scarborough the following morning. Tired, but incredibly proud, they reflected on an unforgettable experience and the way they had represented both themselves and Moorview Care on a national stage.
Summing up the event perfectly, Zoe said:
"The most best experience of my life!"
Reading those words fills us with pride and joy.
Being recognised nationally is a fantastic achievement, but the greatest success is seeing the confidence, friendships and opportunities that Moorview Matters continues to create. This Highly Commended belongs to every member of Moorview Matters, whose voices continue to influence our organisation, challenge us to think differently and inspire positive change every single day.
Congratulations to Caitlin, Zoe, Shelley, Lucy, Cheryl and every member of Moorview Matters. You represented Moorview Care with passion and enthusiasm, and we continue to be astounded and incredibly proud of all you achieve together.
