Moorview Matters, Pride Parade & More!

September’s Moorview Matters meeting was another positive and productive opportunity for people to come together, share their voices and help shape positive change. From meaningful conversations about care and support, to celebrating Pride together, there were plenty of opportunities to share ideas and experiences, learn together and show our support for the communities we are proud to be part of.

We began our meeting by exploring the Big Conversation about Care. As a group, we discussed the survey questions and shared our thoughts, ideas and feedback about care and support. It was a valuable opportunity for everyone to have their say and contribute to an important conversation about the things that matter to the people we support.

Next, our Director of Operations, Nicki Dixon, introduced the new Allyship Pledge created by Moorview Care. We recognised how closely the pledge aligns with the values we already have in place: trust, be kind, respect, work together, learn and lead.

This led to a great discussion about what allyship means in practice and how we can each play our part in creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment.

It was fantastic that we were able to put these ideas into action beyond the meeting, as we came together this year to attend Scarborough Pride, representing Moorview Care and celebrating alongside the LGBTQIA+ community. During our time at pride, we had MP for Scarborough and Whitby, Alison Hume, find us and ask to take a group photo!

A huge thank you as well to Sam Cotty, our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion, for coordinating Moorview Care’s place in the parade.

Lastly, Head of Communications, Robyn Franklin, shared the results of our annual Satisfaction Survey. This year, we had the highest number of people at Moorview Care complete the survey, which is fantastic. It gives us valuable insight directly from the people we support about their experiences, how they are doing and the support they receive.

We’ve now been gathering feedback through the survey for five years, and we were really pleased to see improvements compared with last year. Overall, people rated their satisfaction with the support they receive at 9.3 out of 10.

This is a fantastic result and something we are incredibly proud of. At the same time, we know there is always more we can do. The feedback we receive helps us understand what matters most to the people we support and where we can continue to improve.

As a group, we worked together to put our feedback and suggested changes into a letter for our CEO, Julie Wells-Colley. Our Vice Chairs, Bradley and Danielle and Deputy Chairs Zoe and Liam, also signed the letter, helping to ensure that the group's collective voice was heard.

It was fantastic to see everyone sharing their views, contributing ideas and, most importantly, feeling that their voices were heard and valued.

As well as listening to the people we support, we also value the views and experiences of those who work alongside us. Our professional colleagues and parents survey provides an important opportunity to understand how others experience the support provided by Moorview Care and to recognise the strengths they see in our approach.

The feedback from professional colleagues and parents highlighted a number of areas where Moorview Care is making a positive difference, particularly in the way we build relationships, work collaboratively and keep the people we support at the heart of everything we do.

Overall, the meeting was a great example of the value of coming together, listening to different perspectives and turning conversations into action. From sharing our ideas about care and support to promoting allyship and celebrating Pride, September gave us plenty of opportunities to make our voices heard, learn from each other and play our part in creating positive change.
