As February’s Dignity Action Month takes centre stage across health and social care, Moorview Care is spotlighting what dignity truly means to families and the people they love. In a heartfelt audio interview with Robyn Fraklin, Head of Communications, William James-Hirst, Learning and Development Officer at Moorview Care, discusses dignity in everyday support, weaving in personal reflections as a parent and an educator who has to consider how we deliver support in a dignified way each day.
Dignity Action Month is an annual UK initiative dedicated to promoting respect, choice, individuality, and compassionate support for people receiving care and support services — encouraging organisations and individuals to embed these values in their daily practice.
Living Dignity Every Day
In the interview, Will reflects on what dignity means in practical terms for social care teams:
“Dignity isn’t a buzzword — it’s integral to everybody’s existence. It’s the little things. Dignity is in the details”
Will highlights how dignity is upheld through listening, choice, and genuine collaboration between families and support teams.
Speaking as a family member, he shares how meaningful communication and shared decision-making make a real difference to a family’s life.
A Parent’s Perspective: Trust and Partnership
One of the most powerful parts of the conversation comes from a parent reflecting on what quality support looks like for their loved one:
“I would, in a heartbeat, trust Moorview Care to support [my son]. Because of the level of dignity, respect and person-centredness we provide to the people we support.”
This endorsement underlines a central theme of Dignity Action Month — that care and support should enhance people’s lives with respect and kindness at their core.
Family Working Group: Building Better Support Together
The interview also highlights the positive impact of Moorview Care’s Family Working Group, an initiative designed to deepen collaboration between families and practitioners. Launched with the aim of strengthening communication, sharing feedback, and shaping improvements together, the group has quickly become a valued space for honest dialogue and influence across a person's circle of support.
“Having a Family Working Group must bring such relief,” Will explains. “It’s a safe space to have those difficult conversations, without judgment; that is a dignified thing.”
Robyn describes it as one of the most positive developments we’ve seen, pointing out how being listened to and involved strengthens trust and outcomes for the people we support.
Dignity in Action at Moorview Care
As part of its wider commitment to dignity and inclusion, we continue to embed co-production, person-centred planning, and family partnership across all its practices. Our values align closely with the spirit of Dignity Action Month — championing respect, choice, and compassion every day.
For the people supported by Moorview Care, and the families alongside them, dignity isn’t just a campaign - it’s a lived experience.
