Celebrating Outstanding Practice: Whitby and Scarborough Excel in Mock Inspection

Recently, our Whitby and Scarborough locality took part in a mock inspection, designed to replicate the experience of an inspection from our regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The feedback was incredibly positive, with the report highlighting extensive evidence of Outstanding practice across all domains, further demonstrating the high standards we continue to deliver as an Outstanding-rated service.
With only 4.8% of adult social care companies achieving an Outstanding rating, which we have proudly held since 2018, we know just how important it is to continue building on the work we do and maintaining these high standards.
The inspection was a great opportunity to take a step back, reflect on the work happening across our locality, celebrate what we're doing well and identify how we can continue to build on our Outstanding rating through ongoing learning and improvement.
The report recognised how our people are supported to live meaningful and independent lives through highly personalised care, delivered by a skilled, knowledgeable and dedicated team.
It also highlighted how learning is part of everyday practice and how our teams embrace innovation to continually improve outcomes. There was clear evidence of how this commitment to learning and development is making a real difference to the lives of the people we support.
Registered Manager of Whitby and Scarborough, Jennie Charters, shares her thoughts on the mock inspection and the fantastic feedback received.
When asked how she felt about the overall report, Jennie said:
“I am very pleased because we did really really well. I think the report was really fair, there were some areas for development.. so that’s the next steps now, we’re getting those and breaking them down and adding them to our improvement plan. We’ll also be working on them in our management huddles to make sure that we’re always improving.”
Jennie acknowledged and gave credit to the team who supported her, saying:
“I did a lot of preparation for the inspection and Sam Robinson, Nicki Dixon, Kate Danielkiewicz and the Cluster Managers Paula Wardle-Brown and Shelley Thorpe all contributed to making it happen.”
She went on to share what she felt particularly proud to see recognised in the report:
“The thing I’m most proud of though is the recognition of the relationships that our teams have with our people. What really shone through, is that the people we support felt comfortable enough with our team and our management team to discuss such sensitive areas of their life.”
When asked about the team’s plans moving forward and how they will continue to maintain their Outstanding rating, Jennie shared:
“I am focusing on consistency across Whitby and Scarborough. Now, with a full management team, we are focusing on utilising all skills and areas of experience to improve compliance, embed our values, upskill our team and promote excellent practice in line with gloriously ordinary lives across the whole of Whitby and Scarborough.”
A huge well done to everyone across Whitby and Scarborough! This fantastic report is a real reflection of the hard work, knowledge and dedication of our teams. It’s especially wonderful to see the positive relationships we’ve built with our people recognised so clearly and we look forward to seeing the team continue to build on this great work and achieve even more together!
